“Mixolydiance” with Margaret Martin Kvamme

Organist Margaret Martin Kvamme will perform a program of eight works by women composers – two contemporary musicians with Bay Area and Central Coast connections and one who was court musician to Louis XIV – on Sunday, June 2, at 4 pm at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Carmel Valley.  Patrons are invited to a pre-performance reception at the church at 3 pm to enjoy refreshments and hear from Kvamme about the extraordinary composers featured in this concert. Tickets at the door $25 general, students and under 18 free.

Faythe Freese, Concert Organist

Faythe Freese, Professor Emeritus of Organ at the University of Alabama School of Music, is in demand internationally as a recitalist. She has been called “an organ superstar” (Denver Post) and evinces “fiery and virtuosic playing” (The Boston Musical Intelligencer).

Presented in conjunction with the American Guild of Organists 2024 National Convention in San Francisco (June 30-July 4), Dr. Freese’s colorful and engaging program at Grace Cathedral presents music by Langlais, Jermar, Guilmant, Decker, Price, and Sowerby. The concert will be accompanied by nine dancers choreographed by Kristin D’Addario, screen projections, and light effects on the interior cathedral walls.

Janette Fishell, Concert Organist

Janette Fishell is Professor of Organ and Chair of the Organ Department at the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University and is a frequent guest artist and teacher at conservatories, universities and civic concert series throughout the United States and Europe. Recordings for the NAXOS, Pro Organo and Loft labels feature her as organ soloist, accompanist, choral conductor and composer.

Presented in conjunction with the American Guild of Organists 2024 National Convention in San Francisco (June 30-July 4), her program is inspired by the theme “From Muse to Master,” and features music by Tournemire, Vierne, Eben, Dupré, Barraine, and Laurin. A highlight is the premiere of Suite for Organ by Mason Bates, named as the most-performed composer of his generation in a recent survey of American music.

First in a series of recitals exploring the organ music of J.S. Bach.

Explore the many moods and emotions that Bach captured so perfectly in 18th-century style - complex, calm, stunning, reflective, dramatic. Including the Palm Sunday chorale “All Glory, Laud and Honor” this is a small part of Bach’s extensive and humble musical offering, as he often inscribed it Soli den Gloria for the glory of God alone.

Admission is free, Free parking is adjacent to Erdman Chapel.
