The Hook & Hastings Organ at St John Episcopal Church, Aptos, was built in 1869 for the First Presbyterian Church of Marysville, CA, shipped around the horn and up the California delta to Marysville.  In the early 20th century the key and stop action were changed to electro-pneumatic.  I the 1960's, rather than retro-fit their Victorian down town Marysville edifice, the Presbyterians built a new church, parish hall, and classrooms, on the outskirts of town, installing the organ without casework behind grill cloth at the front of the church, with a detached console.  In 1978 the pneumatic action was failing, and with encouragement from David Rothe, organist at CSU Chico, it was decided to re-create the 19th century instrument. Rosales Organbuilders was given the contract to build new casework and new mechanical key and stop action.  Additions to the Pedal division were also made at this time.  In 2020's the Presbyterian Church of Marysville was down to 15 members and sold their buildings to a charter school, and moved to a downtown, storefront ministry.  The organ was put up for sale for $10 to any institution that would set it up and not put it in storage.  Members from St. John Episcopal, Aptos, planning on building a sanctuary in the near future, went to Marysville, listened to the organ and decided to acquire it.  It was dismantled, moved, and installed by Hupalo & Repasky Pipe Organs.
